| What is a Learning Champion?
A Learning Champion is passionate about learning! They are volunteers who help people in local communities
t o use education as a tool toward and growth;
they do this by offering advice and guidance about the learning opportunities available in their area.
Learning Champions also attend local events, encouraging people over 19 years, who live, work or volunteer
in the Borough of Greenwich to look at what
courses might be available.
To qualify for help learners must not have attended any formal education for at least three years.
Greenwich Community College supports this project by offering any General Interest course free of charge.
This offer is available to any learner referred by a Community Learning Champion, who fulfills
the criteria (as stated above).
GCC are offering this as an opportunity for people to ‘try’ courses before actually embarking on more formal
training – it is hoped that once learners have
experienced adult learning themselves, that they will be encouraged to continue onto level 2 training.
Anyone can be a Learning Champion; all you need is passion, commitment to the role and the desire
to pass on your experience and knowledge.
It doesn’t require much time and you will be fully trained. As soon as you register, you will receive your
Champions Diary, which contains lots of
contact details of local formal, and informal education providers in
Greenwich. The only thing we ask is that you keep track of those learners you have
referred and send their
details to the office.
If you are a good talker and listener, know lots of people and want to inspire others to learn and
grow, which describes teaching staff quite well,
don’t you think? Then call Lyn on 020 8853 1331
